Last week I launched Pub Gateway, a directory of pubs in the British Isles which focuses on precise geographical data and no intrusive advertising. It’s written entirely in PHP with a MySQL backend, and utilises a number of existing libraries to perform most standard functions such as session handling and template parsing. The site also keeps a minimal account of data on the server, as the jQuery files are hosted on Google’s Content Distribution Network, maps are hosted by Google Maps and the pub photos are imported from flickr.
